Cotuit's oldest properties date to the late eighteenth century, and the village grew through the maritime decades on shipping, shipbuilding, whaling, oystering and salt making. The first summer residence in Barnstable and the first hotel on Cape Cod were both built here.
Which is why the driveways vary so much
Three distinct waves of building, three distinct kinds of driveway.
The working village left narrow lots and short driveways close to the water. The early resort period added larger seasonal houses set back behind planting. Later infill added ordinary suburban driveways between the two.

Seasonal use is its own condition
