Orleans is where the Cape turns north and where Route 6, Route 6A and Route 28 all finally meet. It is the last town in our service area, and it is genuinely a junction: bay on one side, open Atlantic on the other, and the whole Outer Cape funnelling through it.
Toward Rock Harbor
Low, close to the bay, and the part of town where water table and pitch matter most. Driveways here need somewhere for run off to go that is not the house.
Toward Nauset
East Orleans and the Nauset Heights side, more exposed, sandier, and open to weather coming in off the Atlantic.
Toward South Orleans
Quieter and more wooded, running down to Pleasant Bay, with longer approaches and more tree litter on the surface.
The edge of where we go
We stop at Orleans, and it is worth saying why rather than just drawing a line. Ground conditions and access change again beyond here, out along the Outer Cape, and the round trip starts eating the day. We would rather cover this stretch properly and know it well than spread thin and know none of it.

Summer here is different
Everything heading to the Outer Cape passes through Orleans, and in July that shows. Deliveries take longer, the roundabout is slow, and a job that would take a morning in April can stretch. None of that is your problem, but it is why we will usually suggest shoulder season if the work is not urgent.
Fall is the best time to do a driveway here. The traffic has gone, the ground is still workable, and the surface has all winter to settle before it gets used properly again.

Orleans is where Route 6, 6A and 28 come together, and in summer that means a town doing a great deal of turning. Driveways here often take more manoeuvring than their size suggests, particularly along the busier stretches.
Repeated turning in the same spot is the one thing that moves a loose surface fastest, whatever it is made of. Crushed stone handles it better, so on a driveway that is reversed out of several times a day we will usually suggest it. On a quieter road in South Orleans or out toward Nauset, shell is the nicer surface and will hold perfectly well.
